old news

i'm really bad about updating, eh? well, i don't feel bad, i've been busy.

there will be a muppet baby soon. as i understand it, this is andy's greatest fear. elysse is huge and about to pop, and the midwife says she'll probably pop around the new year, a full month earlier than we expected.

and i've spent the last eight months working on

i finally did it --- i bought myself a TiBook. and not just any mac powerbook, the 17-inch one. it's quite sweet, and i have pictures of taking it out of the box. the only trouble so far was four days after i got it when tima chewed through the little DC cable on the power adapter, and we awoke to the sound of it sparking. amazingly, the cat is still alive, even though it was 64W DC (she chewed nearly all the way through) and cost $80 because the warranty doesn't cover acts of pet.

anyway, i'm tapping at the keyboard right now, trying to figure out the networking situation in the new computer, which used to be the music room until we realized that it was all wrong and decided to move everything around. lots more room for the instruments, a nice green wall in the computer room, and with the guitars at the bottom of the stairs i may be more inclined to play them more often.

in other words, we're up to a whole lot of nothing at the house. i'm working on way too many projects at once, so i'm frazzled all the time. something's got to give....

playing music with kk, kaeff, and a kickass drummer named neil bell. going to start writing and hopefully gigging.

drove to nashville on a whim to get jack in the box for elysse.

came back to find a frozen and burst pipe, requiring expensive emergency plumbing.

working like a madman on projects at work.

planning to expand our numbers through cloning (or at least the traditional biological form of cloning).

looking for a larger house, to accomodate our enormous amounts of crap and the impending army of shorties.

complained quite a lot about the coldest winter in a good while.

attempting to move to evolution instead of mozilla mail (because evo can sync to my palm, moz can't), and using gnucash instead of a spreadsheet.

started using spamassassin. discovered my hosting service is considered a spam source, and all my mail from myself gets put in the spam folder.

saw the wilco movie.

had to call another plumber to repair the previous repair (the coupling broke loose and started spewing water all over the place again. bought space heater for the back porch in an attempt to prevent it from happing yet again.

i turn 28 on monday. joy of joys.

now that i finally have a webhost which allows dynamic content, i can make the whole aoy site a little easier to manage. this, of course, means i will probably update it more often.

removed the need for templates by creating include()able header and footer pages... sounds simple, but makes life so easy.

a short while ago i wrote a php news-ticker system for a friend on server without shell access (which makes setting up a database rather painful). not only have i had good use for that at work, it works out nicely here, as well, where each database connection is logged and counts against a monthly quota. ;-) my first act was to convert this front page to the new stuff, and post the old stories. eh.

also am in the process of putting my gallery generator software on here, as well, so i can put lots of images up without the hassle of creating a page for each. this means i may finally get the wedding pictures online!

pretty good for three hours on a gloomy sunday morning...

yeah, it's been a while. lots of things happened in ten months; i started projects at work that consumed my life, i offered my services to friends and put in way more work than i should've, i took a ride on an emotional roller coaster and seem to have come out the better for it... and at the end of it all, i post a vague and unhelpful summary like this. natch.

on the plus side, i've moved asofyet.org to a new host who is not only cheaper but gives me server-side dynamic content. havn't had the time to take advantage of this yet, but i will, oh yes, i will.

despite what most people say around the water cooler, i find married life to be more enjoyable than the doldrum that i lived in before, even if i can't find a damned thing around the house anymore. oh, and i finally bought my own house, too.

speaking of house, i'm finally on dsl again, and will be updating this pitifully outdated site slightly more often. i hope. the terms of service provided by the telephone monopoly claim that i am not allowed to run any servers on my home box, so i will not be able to post links to content on my home box. ahem. anyway.

the true aoy page is woefully out of date as the band broke up almost two years ago, but neal is still playing with the track tapes on his home studio system, so there may be some new stuff to post at some point. i've been engrossed in work and programming more than music lately, but having a killer new computer has gotten me once again interested in creating electronic music and maybe recording some guitar work onto the PC. don't worry, i'll keep you posted.
