Think about it people... "Please Recycle." "Recycle Aluminum." "Aluminum cans only." Somebody really wants aluminum! What happens if we don't recycle aluminum? It goes to a landfill --- right back into the ground from which it came. Into the planet.
Aluminum comes from the ground. There's lots of it there. They'll tell you that it costs less to make cans from recycled aluminum than it does to make new aluminum from the raw ore. Although this is a very true and convincing arugument, it is a ruse. Cans are not the only things made of aluminum.
Aluminum is a very light metal, good for making things that need to be lightweight, such as little bits of electronics, small machinery, planes, satellites... and spaceships. Where do satellites and spaceships and spacestations and the electronics in them go? Off of the planet.
This is bad. Very very bad.
Our planet orbits the sun at a delicately balanced distance. This distance is what allows human life. If the earth were closer, we would fry, if it were farther away, we would freeze. Our planet stays in orbit where it is because of the tightrope balance of inertia, mass, and momentum. Changing one of these would change the effect of the Sun's gravitational force on the Earth.
Do you get it yet?
If we changed the mass of the planet, we would change our orbit. Granted, it would take a huge change in mass to affect anything noticible on something the size of the Earth, but anything is possible. Little bits add up... little bits like satellites and space stations!
The space program is an evil conspiracy to change the earth's orbit and kill all humankind!
Yes! They're tricking us into not putting the aluminum back into the ground, so that they can get it off of the planet! That way, the earth will sink closer to the Sun, and we'll all fry!
I urge you, don't let this happen! Think of your children! Don't recycle! It's a trap! Fight the Power!
the above ranting is just a silly
thing i thought up on lunch break, inspired by a "please recycle" sign in the
cafeteria, and influenced by the recent popularity of "The X Files" (and the
movie, which i really enjoyed). yes, i know the actual numbers involved make
this highly improbable, if not assinine -- that's the idea. this is a joke.
haha. (well, i thought it was funny...)
