here's a poigniant quote from my good friend julie:
HELP
ME!!!!!! the computer is SUCKING MY
LIFE AWAY!!!
if i could only describe how completely that explains my predicament...
i would be understating most grossly. stay tuned... there
will doubtless be more to come on this particular subject.

yes, there would be more on this subject, except that the
computer really has sucked my life away. no matter what i try, i
must waste time at the computer --- to wit:
- for both ee571
and cs216,
my homework assignments and classroom correspondences come via email and
the world wide web which i consequently must check at least thrice a day
and wind up by habit checking as often as possible
- much of my homework or the above classes must be done on the
computer, such as programming in C++ and doing various mathematical
manipulations in MATLAB --- both of which take enormous amounts of time
- any word processing for any class as well as writing business and
recruiting letters and updating the resume is of course done on the
computer
- at the Engineering Computing
Center, i work to keep unix machines machines running (or to attempt
to break them, as the case may be)... i also have my own machine there which needs my
TLC...
- for the band as
well as for IEEE
and eta kappa nu, i
maintian web pages, which means lots of futzing around with html, which i
also do as a hobby like right now.
- a lot of other stuff, like making flyers cd liners and pitcures
and playing
X Wing v Tie Fighter all happens on the computer....
therefore we see that there's no way man could've survived before the
advnet of the multimedia computer. i don't know how i survived until
october 1996 without owning one!!! then again i think its rather amazing
that in this much time i've grown so dependent on it. there were times
over the summer when i was glad not to have to turn the damned thing
on.... how i llong for those days now. last week was great, because i
didn't have to use MATLAB for my ee571 homework, and didn't have to spend
more than ten minutes on the PC ---- sure would drop the electric bill.
